CLOSE

We are living in a digital world, yet people still struggle to find quality health and wellness professionals. Many businesses simply don't have the financial resources or time to build an online presence. This is where OptimalHealth comes in.

Minimum effort, Maximum results

OptimalHealth is a digital platform effortlessly connecting our users with the World's Top Health and Wellness professionals allowing them to instantly book appointments online. Thus enabling Health and Wellness Professionals to reach countless new customers and fill their calendars without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars in ads and marketing.

  1. Conduct a short health/wellness survey sent to 20 participants (ages 22-63).
  2. Interview 5 of these participants
  3. Conduct an in-depth Competitive Analysis using SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)

Research

To better understand our users needs and further define the problem at hand, I chose to:

Research Objectives

  • What is the current overall health/wellness of the user?
  • Do they prioritize their health/wellness? If so, how?
  • What types of healthcare professionals are they currently getting support from?
  • How do users search for health/wellness professionals?
  • What makes users trust one health/wellness professional over another?

Survey Results

When asked

How would you rate your overall health?

(1 being poor - 5 being excellent)

 When asked

Have you seen a health/wellness professional in the past 6 months?

If yes, how did you find them?

Primary Research

User Interviews were conducted with 5 participants (ages 22 to 63) via zoom.

I chose to conduct interviews because they can give you an in-depth understanding of the users’ values, perceptions, and experiences. They allow you to ask specific questions, while remaining open to exploring your participants’ points of view.

Interview Results

  • 4 out of 5 users rated their physical health higher than their mental health
  • "Good" Physical health was attributed to eating healthy and exercising regularly
  • "Poor" Mental Health was attributed to stress at work and stress in the family
  • Good” Mental health was attributed to reading personal development books and journaling

Interview Results Continued

  • 4 out of 5 users were currently working with health and wellness professionals (Primary Care Doctors, Dentists, Therapists, Personal Trainers, Optometrists, OBGYN Doctors, Coaches and Mindset Coaches)
  • 5 out of 5 users said they would ask family and friends for referrals/recommendations as a way to search for Health/Wellness Professionals

  • Referrals were also a key factor in what makes the users trust one Health/Wellness Professional over another
  • 4 out of 5 users mentioned insurance coverage as a key factor in finding and deciding on a Health/Wellness Professional, these users also mentioned money being a factor and the importance of saving money by utilizing their health insurance

Secondary Research

I chose to conduct a competitor analysis to understand my competitors' strengths and weaknesses to find a gap in the market. This helped me to recognize the opportunity for OptimalHealth to fill that gap and elevate the market, becoming a threat to these competitors.

Competitor Analysis

Bark is a web-based services marketplace with over 5M customers around the world. Their services are not confined to only Health and Wellness Professionals. Regardless I would still consider them a direct competitor

BetterHelp is a web-based platform that allows patients to interact with counselors and therapists via a private online message board, live chat, phone and video conferencing and is the world's largest counseling service. Due to the nature of their services offered and niche I would consider them an indirect competitor.

Zocdoc is a digital platform that connects patients with doctors of their choosing and enables them to instantly book appointments online. Although they focus solely on marketing doctors, due to the nature of their services provided I would consider them a direct competitor.

Business Comparison

 Research Analysis

After conducting my research I used affinity mapping to sort through the data to find patterns and commonalities in user needs among the interview participants. I then compared these user needs to the gap in the market I discovered after conducting my competitor analysis and came up with my POV (problem statement that needs to be solved) and HMW (How might we statements - short questions that start the process of generating ideas and solutions).

POV

HMW

I’d like to explore ways to help health conscious adults connect with quality health and wellness professional services that accept insurance because more people will take advantage of the services available to them.
How might we provide a service that connects health conscious adults with quality health and wellness professionals?
Next it was time to compare the business goals, user goals and technical considerations.
After doing so, it became clear that in order for this to be a profitable business I would need to design a user interface for the customer/consumer as well as a user interface for professionals looking to use this platform to market their services.

Due to time constraints I decided to move forward with the user interface first, as this was more in alignment with my current target audience.

User Personas

To gain a deeper understanding of my target audience I created these User Personas, whose goals and characteristics represent the needs of my target audience.

Target Audience- Health Conscious adults between the ages of 21 - 65 who are actively seeking Health/Wellness professionals to help improve their overall health.

Task Flow #1

With the problem and users needs defined it was time to think through some important task flows the user would go through, such as finding a health/wellness professional near them

Task Flow #2

. . . and booking an appointment with the Health/Wellness Professional

Next Steps

Keeping these flows in mind, it was time to mock up some mobile screens (Mid-fidelity wireframes) to create a more accurate depiction of the task flows, as well as to give a glimpse of how the final product will be.

Digital Design

After conducting research to better understand the users needs and further define the problem at hand, I developed the initial UI of the mobile website. A series of icons, typography, color palettes and style guides to get the product to market testing.

Market Testing

Usability Testing was conducted for 3 tasks with 5 participants (ages 31 to 62).
The success of the design was measured by the ease and precision of completing the tasks as well as the satisfaction of the overall user interface experience.

Task # 1 Creating an Account & Profile

Results for Task # 1

  • 3 out of 5 users created an account and profile quickly and easily
  • 2 out of 5 users had difficulty finding where to "Sign-up"
  • However, when asked How would you rate the ease of creating an account on a scale of 1 - 5? (With 1 being difficult and 5 being easy) on average it received a rating of 4
  • 4 out of 5 users agreed that the “Sign-up” link was a little small and hard to see

Task #2 Searching For a Primary Care Doctor

Results for Task # 2

  • 4 out of 5 users used the search function quickly and easily
  • 1 out of 5 users had difficulty completing this task (due to not following instructions)
  • When asked How would you rate the ease of searching for an expert on a scale of 1 - 5? (With 1 being difficult and 5 being easy) on average it received a rating of 4.7
  • 4 out of 5 users liked the auto populate text feature when they started typing for primary care doctor and also liked the geolocation pop-up

Task #3 Booking an Appointment

Results for Task # 3

  • 4 out of 5 users booked an appointment quickly and easily
  • One user was having some difficulties, because they were using a laptop to navigate a mobile screen and weren't familiar with how to navigate the mobile functionality of scrolling up and down, and therefore could not find the “Book Appointment” button on the Doctor Profile Screen
  • However, once the user discovered that they were able to scroll up and down, the task became simple and straightforward.
  • When asked How would you rate the ease of booking an appointment on a scale of 1 - 5? (With 1 being difficult and 5 being easy) on average it received a rating of 4.6

Priority Revisions

Based on these results, in order to make the sign up process smoother for ALL users I decided to add 2 additional screens to this flow.
  1. A hamburger menu screen, creating another option for users to Login/Sign-up.
  2.  A welcome screen with two options "Sign-up" or "Login" to help clarify next steps when signing up.

After making the additional screens and minor revisions,
 I am confident that
ALL users will find the sign-up process easy and straightforward

What's next?

As previously mentioned, in order for this product to be profitable
I would need to design a user interface for the Health/Wellness Professionals looking to use OptimalHealth as a platform to market their services.

With more time and resources available, rather than preparing for my design handoff, I would choose to repeat the entire design process with the Health/Wellness Professional users in mind. With the intention of creating and bringing to market the complete profitable end to end to product.

That truly is a digital platform which effortlessly connects its users with the World's Top Health and Wellness professionals allowing them to instantly book appointments online. And genuinely enables Health and Wellness Professionals to reach countless new customers and fill their calendars without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars in ads and marketing.
